NGIMBI LUVE

Ngimbi Luve’s thirst and passion for progress led him to the Plastic Arts at the l’Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, through which he was able study closely with some renowned artists. He is one the first of his generations to exhibit alongside masters of Congolese art such as Mavinga, Chéri Samba, Nginamau, Lema Kusa, Liyolo, Botembe, François Tamba Ndembe in both Kinshasa and Germany.

François Tamba Ndembe, a well-known Congolese sculptor, avant-gardist and artist, distinguished by his mastery of composition and his use of form, became his mentor. Mgimbi has carried these elements into his style that is characterized by a disregard for the conventions that guide the art world.

He pays particular attention to lines and the anamorphosis of forms while upholding the spirituality of Kongo art, which serves as a link between the technique and significance of piece. He does not conceive of any boundary or distinction between the various forms of art - painting, sculpture, performance or dance - the body is at the center of the expression; the medium depends on the temperament. According to Ngimbi the art is "the way to give substance to an idea whatever the medium, in the Kongo art what matters is the ethics in the aesthetics. The technique is part of the daily life of the artist, it is a ritual, and the nsoneki (the artist) is in dialogue with his body. "
